Firefighters’ toxic contamination concerns in Canberra

June 18, 2018 by ufuadmin

Concerns have been raised by the UFU and fire fighters about repeated exposure to toxic PFAS foam chemicals at Fyshwick and other fire stations around Canberra, and the alleged subsequent lack of action by government to address the issue.

The Canberra Times of 13 June 2018 reports that “the government admits the [Fyshwick] site hasn’t been tested despite known risks of contamination.”

The UFU wants to see PFAS contamination tackled as a health and safety issue, and support so “past and present fire fighters could have their blood tested for the presence of toxic chemicals.”
